Working in Klamath Falls at Jeld-Wen

UPDATES

I took a bunch of photos of the plane ride down to Klamath this time. Got some good shots of Crater Lake with a lot of snow around it, as well as some of Gresham when we took off. Also some of Klamath Lake, one of Jeld-Wen on the lake, and a shaky one of the Super 8 motel as we flew over it - the ride coming in was VERY bumpy, so it was hard to hold the camera still.

Klamath Falls airport is pretty much a military base that allows civilians to use the airport. I tried to fly standby, but the flight was full and I had to wait 5 hours, so I walked around the airport and area. While doing that, the Fighters were flying around, and I got some good shots of them landing. I was outside the airport on the road at the beginning of the runway, so I got to see them land up close. Pretty cool!

It had been very cold down here, and we got a light dusting of snow the day before. When I woke up this morning I saw about 6-8 inches of snow everywhere! It was very pretty and I made sure to take LOTS of pics. By the time I left on my plane at 3pm, most of the snow was melted and gone. But while it was there, it was very pretty!

I took a TON of pictures on the plane ride home from Klamath to Portland, it was a beautiful day. Some turned out really good, others are ok. I tried take some with no zoom, full normal zoom, then full digital zoom just to see what the difference is. I got a bunch of Crater Lake since we flew right over it, and some good ones of Portland - a really good one of Sylvan! The big problem is the outside of the window started icing up, which you can really tell in some photos (and I even got some of the ice).

There's a bunch of birds that live around Jeld-Wen, they are either Quail or Partridges, I'm not sure which. They are so funny cause they run more than fly (though they can if they have to), and their little legs go so fast. I can't get real close to them, so took these with the camera on full digital zoom, which is why they are a little blurry. Still kinda cute.

Once again the train came by as I was walking back to the Super 8. This time it was just pulling flatbeds.

As I was walking back to the Super 8 after work, the train came by again. This time it was a beautiful day, no clouds, and I was able to get some really good, clear pictures as it went by. This train wasn't all that much longer than the other, but I didn't have to wait for the flash so I was able to get more.

The train FINALLY came by as I was walking to work this morning, so I quickly took out the camera to take some photos.

About This Site and My Photos

Here are a bunch of photos of from me working in Klamath Falls for Jeld-Wen. I started here on 10/7/02 and am currently still here (12/20/02). It's quite the small town. Compared to Portland, it's almost a huge culture shock. For example, Jeld-Wen doesn't use ID badges and all of the doors on their buildings are unlocked. People here actually stop for me when I'm in a crosswalk!

I fly in Sunday night, take a taxi to the fabulous Super 8 motel. I don't rent a car because I can walk everywhere easily. The Super 8 is about a mile away from Jeld-Wen, so I walk back and forth every day. My long walk is Monday night, when I walk to Safeway to get supplies for the week. This walk is about 2 miles each direction. But I don't mind that at all, it's a nice walk, I'm not in any hurry to get anywhere, and I've lost weight since I've been down here! Then I fly home on Fridays, home for the weekend, and I do it all over again Sunday night. People always worry about me getting too cold. I walk very fast - not on purpose, it's just how I walk. So by the time I'm back to the Super 8 or to Jeld-Wen, I'm sweating! I figure I'm walking about a 12-13 minute mile.

One weird thing is in all the time I've been flying back and forth, I've only had the same Flight Attendant once! The best thing about the flight is they give you complimentory (meaning FREE) beer and wine. And it's good stuff too! They have 22oz bottles of Widmer Spring Run IPA right now and have had Bert Grants Deep Powder, Fullsail Wassail, Red Hook ESB and Red Hook Winterhook in the past. Mmmmmmmm..... On one flight, it was the third time I had that same flight attendant and she gave me a full 22oz bottle! I wasn't wanting THAT much, but hey, who's gonna turn down free beer?

There's also a picture of the local Taco Time here. That's because I eat there almost every night. I know, I know, not the best of foods to be eating all the time. But

  1. It's only $.99 for one Crisp Meat Burrito, so inexpensve to eat there (and I have to watch my expenses).
  2. I eat very good the rest of the week.
  3. I'm walking A LOT

So I figure it's ok to eat some greasy burrito's. Plus I like them a lot. :)
